Montgomery, AL – Today is the final day to register to vote in Alabama for the general election on Nov. 4.
Election officials said they expected to process thousands of last-minute applications as the deadline arrived on Friday.
Voter registration already is up dramatically, jumping to 2.9 million voters statewide by mid-October. That's an increase of more than 7 percent since December 2007.
In Jefferson County, the state's most populous area, election officials say they are handling as many as 2,000 new registrations or address changes each day.
