Montgomery, AL – Alabama's voter registration rolls are closing in on 3 million names.
Election officials are still processing the rush of applications that were filed by the deadline Friday. And the numbers will grow over the next couple of days. But as of late this afternoon, the secretary of state's office said the voter rolls were 2,371 names short of 3 million.
That's an all-time high. The state's supervisor of voter registration, Ed Packard, says the previous record was 2.88 million in the 2000 presidential race.
