State Officials to Announce New Autism Initiative

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – The leaders of the Alabama Autism Task Force, Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. and state Rep. Cam Ward, are planning to announce an initiative for training Alabama teachers regarding autism and other developmental disorders.

Folsom and Ward are scheduled to make the announcement Wednesday in Montgomery with Dr. Mabrey Whetstone of the state Department of Education.

The American Autism Society says one out of every 150 children is diagnosed with autism or autism-related disorders.
