Tuscaloosa, AL – Tuscaloosa businessman Stan Pate has started running radio ads encouraging Alabama voters to reject Amendment One on Tuesday.
Amendment One would expand a rainy day fund for the state education budget and create one for the General Fund budget. It would do that by borrowing money from a state savings account called the Alabama Trust Fund.
Pate has been active in Alabama politics for many years. He calls Amendment One a bailout for politicians who have made a mess of state finances. His ad encourages voters to say no to politicians getting their hands on the state savings account.
Gov. Bob Riley and state Superintendent of Education Joe Morton are urging voters to approve Amendment One. They say it could prevent cuts in school spending during the economic slowdown.
