Alabama Lawyer Appointed to Merchant Marine Board

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters has appointed Birmingham attorney Luther Strange to the advisory board of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Strange worked as a merchant marine in the North Sea before going to law school.

Strange was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in 2006 and is considering running for state office again in 2010. He said he's glad to be of service to the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
