Agencies Cooperate to Clear Accident Sites Faster

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – Software developed by former NASA scientists now used by the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency also is being used to quickly clear traffic tie-ups caused by highway accidents.

Hoover officials have team with Birmingham, the Alabama Department of Transportation and the Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization to find a way to improve emergency response time to crashes.

The effort will focus on the region's interstate system, including Interstates 65, I-20/59 and I-459.

The idea is to use the software to notify all participating rescue or law enforcement agencies of crash sites.
