Fire-Bombing of Walker County Church Under Investigation

By Associated Press

Jasper, AL – Authorities are investigating a fire bombing at a Catholic church in Jasper.

Officials say what appears to be a gasoline bomb was thrown against the front door of St. Cecilia Catholic Church early Sunday morning. The bomb caused a small blaze that left minor damage to the church.

Church pastor the Rev. David Buchanan said the church has received no threats. He said he has hired a security guard to patrol the church grounds at night.

Buchanan said he believes someone tried to throw the bomb through the front window of the church but a thick outer window prevented that.

The incident is being investigated by local, state and federal agents.
