Mobile Rings in 2009 With Electric Confection

By Associated Press

Mobile, AL – New York may have its famous Times Square party, but Mobile will ring in 2009 with chocolate, graham cracker and marshmallow.

Partygoers at the city's New Year's Eve celebration will dine on the world's largest Moon Pie, courtesy of the Chattanooga, Tenn., bakery that's been making the treats since 1917. The dimensions were not immediately available, though company officials have talked in the past about making a 60-pound, 4-foot-diameter pie for the city.

And at the stroke of midnight, a giant electric Moon Pie model will drop instead of a ball. The city spent $9,000 from his discretionary fun to build the gigantic model.

Moon pies are near and dear to the hearts of Mobile residents. For year, revelers in the city's Mardi Gras parades have been throwing them from floats.
