Mobile, AL – A Birmingham-based firm has been hired to oversee construction of the $36 million National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, which is expected to open in 2010 on Mobile's waterfront.
Officials announced Tuesday that the City Council has unanimously approved the nearly $1 million contract with Hoar Program Management, a division of Hoar Construction, LLC, with groundbreaking set for next spring.
In a statement, Hoar vice president Mike Lanier described it as a "one-of-a-kind project."
Other Hoar projects have included the Barber Motorsports Park and Museum in Leeds, the Shelby Center for Engineering Technology at Auburn University and multiple projects at the University of Alabama.
