Dothan, AL – The Movie Gallery video chain is all but gone from Dothan, the southeast Alabama city where it began more than two decades ago.
Long a mainstay in Dothan, the company's top executives are now in Wilsonville, Ore. The new upper management has virtually no ties to Alabama.
Company spokesman Cliff Torng said Movie Gallery will maintain a presence in its old hometown, but not like before.
Movie Gallery filed for bankruptcy protection in 2007, or two years after it purchased the Oregon-based Hollywood Video. The company has struggled ever since because of debt from the deal.
Its old headquarters in Dothan is up for sale, and only a handful of workers remain.
