Washington – Alabama Republican Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions voted to reject a $14 billion emergency bailout for U.S. automakers.
The proposed legislation collapsed in the Senate after the United Auto Workers refused to give in to Republican demands for wage cuts.
The Senate rejected the bailout 52-35 Thursday night.
The Bush administration calls the demise of the legislation "disappointing" and says it's evaluating its options in light of the breakdown.
