Alabama's Unemployed to Get Help on State Holidays

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – State government isn't taking a holiday when it comes to handling unemployment compensation claims from out-of-work Alabamians.

State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees says the state's two unemployment compensation call centers will remain open for the two upcoming state holidays. That's Monday, when the state honors Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert E. Lee, and Feb. 16, which is Presidents Day.

Surtees said Thursday the call centers are staying open because of the increased volume of calls and because the holidays are on Mondays, which is a peak time for filing unemployment claims.

People filing claims can call 1-866-234-5382. People checking on existing claims can call 1-800-361-4524.
