Hammett Won't Pursue Governor's Office in 2010

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – House Speaker Seth Hammett has announced he will not run for governor in 2010.

Hammett is serving his third term as speaker and his eighth term in the Alabama House. He had said previously that he was considering making a run for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2010.

Hammett released a statement through his office Friday that he wants to concentrate his energies on representing the people of his south Alabama district and on his duties as speaker.

Hammett did not immediately say if he plans to run for re-election to his House seat next year or for a fourth term as speaker.
