Huntsville, AL – Toyota North America says it will expand the number of non-production days at plants in Alabama and five other states and Canada.
Toyota says the cutbacks are necessary because of high inventory and slow sales.
The company's Huntsville plant produces V-8 engines and employs around 900 workers.
Toyota announced in December it would curtail production at the Huntsville plant in January, but Thursday's announcement extended the non-production days to February and March.
According to a Toyota news release, the number of non-production days varies based on production demands at company assembly plants.
Other plants affected by the decision are located in West Virginia, California, Indiana, Kentucky and Texas.
