Mobile, AL – The chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, Rep. John Murtha, is visiting Mobile.
Alabama Reps. Jo Bonner and Artur Davis arranged the visit Thursday so Murtha could discuss the military tanker refueling project with business and community leaders in Mobile.
Davis said he and Bonner have been making the case for why Mobile is the best city and Northrop Grumman/EADS is the best team to build the tanker. The Boeing Co. is also competing for the $35 billion project.
The Air Force selected Northrop Grumman/EADS for the project last year, but then it reopened the bidding after the Government Accounting Office found flaws with the decision.
