Alabama Sides with Arizona in Losing Court Case

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's attorney general says the state has no laws that will be affected by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling Monday against Arizona, even though Alabama took Arizona's side in the case.

On Monday, the Supreme Court let stand a decision that invalidated Arizona laws regulating the ways independent presidential candidates could get on the state ballot.

Alabama Attorney General Troy King said Alabama has no laws like the Arizona laws that were in question.

King said Alabama joined Arizona's side along with 12 other states because he believes states ought to be able to set their own regulations for protecting the integrity of their elections. He said the federal government shouldn't dictate a one-size-fits-all rule for states.
