Ala. Senators Support Restrictions On 16-Year-Olds

Montgomery, AL – An Alabama Senate committee has approved a bill that would add restrictions for some teenage drivers.

The Senate Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee voted unanimously Thursday for the bill that limits 16-year-old drivers to one passenger other than family members and requires them to stop driving by 10 p.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. on weekends.

It also prohibits them from using cell phones while driving.

The bill by Republican Rep. Mac Gipson of Prattville won House approval last month. It now goes to the Senate for debate.
