Samson, AL – The south Alabama town of Samson is planning a memorial to a man hailed as a hero in last week's mass shooting that claimed 11 lives.
Mayor Clay King said Wednesday that officials are trying to come up with a way to remember the sacrifice of 51-year-old Bruce Maloy.
Maloy was the 10th and final victim of gunman Michael McLendon. Authorities and witnesses say Maloy used his old pickup truck to chase McLendon out of town, only to be fatally shot on the outskirts of Samson. They say the death toll could have been worse without Maloy's action.
The mayor said officials are considering a monument that could include Maloy's name and the date of the shootings.
