State Water Policy Committee Files Report

By Associated Press

Montgomery AL – A legislative committee organized to study water policy issues in Alabama has recommended passage of a bill to plan for expansion of transportation along inland waterways.

The bill would authorize the Alabama Department of Transportation to establish a fund to help build infrastructure along Alabama's five navigable inland waterways.

The Joint Legislative Committee on Water Policy and Management was created last year to discuss water policy issues that came up during the lengthy drought the state was experiencing at the time.

The report also suggests the state develop a plan for monitoring ground water and that an advisory committee be created to advise state officials on technical issues concerning water use.
