Montgomery, AL – The split between the governor and the general over electronic gambling is demonstrated by the Governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling.
Gov. Bob Riley didn't appoint Attorney General Troy King to the task force ? and King didn't give the task force's private lawyers permission to represent the state in court.
King says he declined because the governor's office did not provide him with information he wanted about the position the attorneys would take in court.
Riley formed the task force in December, but he didn't name King to it. Riley says many of the gambling machines across the state are illegal. But King says electronic bingo can be operated legally in some Alabama counties.
