Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley says leaders of Alabama's prepaid college tuition plan have come up with a workable solution for shoring up the financially troubled program and paying the tuition of the 48,000 participants.
Three board members of the tuition plan - State Treasurer Kay Ivey, Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. and two-year college Chancellor Bradley Byrne - met privately with the governor Tuesday.
They discussed having the state set aside money each year to help the program and freezing tuition increases for participants for the next three years. Riley says both state government and state universities need to be a part of a solution.
