Capital Murder Charge Dismissed In Ala. Baby Death

Carrollton, AL – A judge has dismissed a capital murder charge that was brought against a west Alabama woman in her newborn baby's death.

Defense attorneys for 34-year-old Bridget Lee showed the judge Thursday that the original autopsy was botched. Later autopsies by state examiners found the baby was stillborn.

Lee, a church pianist who spent nine months in jail after being charged with the death in 2006, hugged her attorney and broke down crying at the courtroom in Carrollton.

The doctor whose autopsy led to the murder charge left Alabama and now works as a medical examiner in Texas.
