Tenth State Lawmaker To Turn Down Pay Hike

Montgomery, AL – Another member of the Alabama House has refused to take the automatic cost-of-living pay increase for legislators that went into effect April 1.

Democratic Rep. Patricia Todd of Birmingham said Thursday she had written a letter to House Clerk Greg Pappas saying she would refuse to accept the raise.

She said she could not in good faith take a pay raise during a recession when there are people in her inner city Birmingham district that are out of work.

She becomes the 10th person in the 104-member House to turn down the $150-a-month raise.
