Riley Urges Lawmakers To Pass Ethics Legislation

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley has gone ``shopping'' to demonstrate what he says is the need for legislation to limit how much lobbyists can spend on legislators and other public officials.

Riley held a news conference Tuesday in the middle of a Sam's Wholesale Club store in Montgomery to urge legislators to bring up for a debate a bill requiring lobbyists to file a report any time they spend more than $25 on a public official.

Currently lobbyists only have to report if they spend more than $250 on a public official in a day.

Riley was standing in front of a number of items that he said cost less than $250. Those included a high definition television set, a machine that makes frozen drinks and a $70 bottle of wine.
