Olympic Boxer Wilder Seeks Legislative Win

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Legislature is getting close to passing a bill that would set up a state boxing commission to sanction professional bouts in Alabama.

Olympic bronze medalist Deontay Wilder of Tuscaloosa has been pushing for the bill. Wilder is undefeated as a pro, but none of his bouts have been in Alabama. Wilder says creating a commission would clear the way for him to fight before a home state crowd.

One version of the bill has passed the Senate and is now in the House. Another version has passed the House and is now in the Senate. One of the sponsors, Republican Rep. Gerald Allen of Cottonwood, says he's hopeful of success.
