Voters in Baldwin County Create Alabama's Newest Town

By Associated Press

Perdido Beach, AL – Voters in the Baldwin County community of Perdido Beach have decided they want to form a town government.

Officials in Baldwin County say more than 60 percent of the bayfront community's residents who had registered to vote turned out for the election Tuesday. Unofficial returns showed 192 voters in favor and 113 against.

Supporters of forming a municipality say a town government can best protect the community from encroachment by nearby municipalities and beachfront development.

The next step is to set an election for a mayor and town council.
