Senate Votes to Put Reed's Name Back on ASU Arena

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Senate has passed a resolution that would put Joe Reed's name back on the basketball arena at his alma mater, Alabama State University.

The university's board of trustees stripped Reed's name from the Joe L. Reed Acadome last year. The board's action came after he filed a court challenge to severance pay for outgoing university President Joe Lee.

Reed spent many years on Alabama State's board and helped secure the state funding to build the basketball arena.

The sponsor of the resolution, Democratic Sen. Zeb Little of Cullman, says Reed has spent his entire life working for Alabama State and deserves to be honored. His resolution won Senate approval 16-3. It still must pass the House to take effect.
