Montgomery, AL – An Alabama Senate committee is beginning work on the state General Fund budget that the House passed last week.
The chairman of the Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee, Democrat Roger Bedford, says he expects his committee to approve the House version of the budget at a meeting Wednesday morning.
Then the $2.5 billion budget will go to the Senate, where it could come up for a vote next week.
The Alabama Legislature has six meeting days left in its 2009 session and it is rushing to wrap up work on both state budgets.
