Montgomery, AL – An Alabama Senate committee has approved the state General Fund budget that the House passed last week.
The Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the budget without any changes.
Committee Chairman Roger Bedford says he hopes to get the Senate to vote on the $2.2 billion budget on Tuesday. He says he will propose one major change, a reduction in the departmental emergency fund controlled by the governor.
The Alabama Legislature is getting close to wrapping up its budget work. The education budget will be up for a final vote in the Senate on Thursday.
