Several Consider Replacing Denton In Ala. Senate

Florence, AL – Several people in northwest Alabama are considering running for the Alabama Senate now that the dean of the Senate, Democrat Bobby Denton of Muscle Shoals, has decided not to seek re-election next year.

Democrats who say they are considering it include state Rep. Tammy Irons of Florence, former Lauderale County Circuit Judge Mike Suttle and Colbert County Commissioner Jimmy Gardiner.

Republicans considering it former state Rep. Lynn Greer of Rogersville and businessman Quinton Hanson of Killen

The former president of the Florence City Council, Steve Pierce, says he's considering the race but hasn't determined a party.

Denton is Alabama's longest continually serving senator with eight terms.
