Montgomery, AL – Republicans in the Alabama Senate are using stalling tactics to delay a vote on the state General Fund budget.
Senate Minority Leader Jabo Waggoner of Birmingham says Republicans are delaying because once the budget is approved, the Legislature's rules will make it easier to pass other bills, some of which the GOP opposes. He said Republicans used stalling tactics Tuesday because they want to buy a little time.
The Legislature has to vote by a three-fifths margin to begin debate on any bill before the state budgets are passed. The state education budget has already passed. It will be easier for legislators to bring up other bills once the General Fund budget is approved.
