President Obama Approves Disaster Aid For Ala. Counties

Washington, D.C. – President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster for Alabama counties affected by severe storms, flooding, tornadoes and straight-line winds April 10-13.

Obama signed the declaration Friday that makes federal funding available on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged. The aid is available for Cullman, DeKalb, Jackson, Jefferson and Marshall counties.

It also makes the entire state eligible for federal money for hazard mitigation projects.

Albert Lewis has been named the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.

FEMA said additional designations may be made at a later date if necessary.
