Richard Scrushy Back In Ala. For Testimony In Civil Trial

Columbiana, AL – Fired HealthSouth Corp. chief executive Richard Scrushy is out of a federal prison in Texas and back in Alabama.

Records show Scrushy was being held at the Shelby County jail in Columbiana on Friday. He's scheduled to testify as early as Monday in a civil lawsuit filed over the fraud that nearly ruined the rehabilitation company he founded.

The investor lawsuit seeks money from Scrushy for the fraud. But Scrushy was acquitted in the scheme during a criminal trial nearly four years ago, and he continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Scrushy was later imprisoned for his conviction in a state bribery scheme involving former Gov. Don Siegelman. He has served about two years of a seven-year prison term.
