Montgomery, AL – Legislative officials say repairing the flooded Alabama Statehouse in Montgomery and replacing ruined equipment will cost more than $1 million.
The bottom floor flooded during heavy rains Thursday, forcing the Legislature to move across the street to the Capitol. Assistant House Clerk Don Ladner and Senate Secretary McDowell Lee say the Statehouse has been repaired enough for the Legislature to conduct its final two meeting days Thursday and Friday in their regular chambers.
The state is using prison labor for part of the cleanup. Ladner and Lee say the repairs will involve replacing carpet, wallboard and ruined equipment, including two flooded copying machines.
