Mobile, AL – ThyssenKrupp AG officials say the construction of the largest portion of the $4.65 billion complex the company is building in Calvert might be delayed.
The German company said in a Tuesday statement that the current global economic situation is leading officials to consider pushing back the startup of the Alabama project scheduled for spring 2010.
ThyssenKrupp also announced Tuesday that it could be on track to lose more than $1 billion this year.
Spokesman Erwin Schneider said a decision about a delay could come in a few weeks and a possible postponement could run for three to six months.
The complex on the Mobile-Washington county line has two business units making carbon steel and stainless steel. Those portions of the complex are supposed to employ 2,700 people at full operation.
