Montgomery, AL – Alabama legislators return Thursday to the recently flooded Alabama Statehouse for the final two days of the 2009 regular session. A major bill that could be a factor is the $2.5 billion General Fund budget to fund state troopers, prisons and most state services.
Lawmakers are waiting to see if Republican Gov. Bob Riley makes changes to that bill.
Legislators also will be dealing with issues such as regulating tax return preparers and changing the rules for vaccinating pets.
And still on the agenda is a bill that would set in motion long-range plans to build a new home for the Legislature. It's an issue on lawmaker's minds after last week's heavy rains flooded the Statehouse, where the Legislature has been meeting for more than 20 years.
