State DOT, Police Conduct I-65 Evacuation Drill

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Alabama transportation officials are testing hurricane evacuation plans to reverse southbound traffic on Interstate 65 to allow four northbound lanes.

About 200 state Transportation Department workers and 100 state troopers will be in place Wednesday along I-65 between Baldwin County and Montgomery to simulate reversing I-65 traffic.

Traffic will not be reversed or detoured anywhere along I-65 during the contraflow training exercise, but every part of the plan will be simulated.

Hurricane season begins June 1.
