Developer Plans to Revive West Alabama Mall

By Associated Press

Tuscaloosa, AL – Tuscaloosa developer Stan Pate has purchased the 40-year-old McFarland Mall, once the premier shopping destination in West Alabama.

Today, however, the mall has many vacancies and within the last year has lost two of its major stores, Dillard's and Goody's Family Clothing.

Pate still likes the location at the corner of McFarland Boulevard and Skyland Boulevard, near Interstate 20/59. He says Tuscaloosa's highest traffic areas make it a good spot for retailing.

Pate purchased the mall from Ward McFarland Inc. He declined to disclose the terms of the sale. He says an early goal will be to cut costs and increase revenues so the mall will become more profitable.
