Gov. Riley, Congressman Spar Over Stimulus Money

Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley's administration and a congressman who wants to be governor are trading sharp words over federal stimulus money.

U.S. Rep. Artur Davis wrote Riley on Friday about the stimulus. The Birmingham Democrat's letter said he's receiving complaints from business owners, local government leaders and community groups about Alabama providing too little information and too little transparency about how it's using stimulus dollars.

The Republican governor's spokesman, Jeff Emerson, says members of the Riley administration previously met with the congressman's staff about the stimulus and none of these concerns were raised. Emerson says the letter is a campaign gimmick because Davis released it to the media before it was received by the governor.
