Ala. Power Rates To Drop By More Than Two Percent

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Power Co. customers are going to see a slight reduction in rates, starting next week.

The state Public Service commission decided Tuesday to decrease the cost of 1,000 kilowatt-hours by $2.72. That's a rate reduction of slightly more than 2 percent.

The PSC took the action because Alabama Power's costs for coal and natural gas have decreased and less expensive hydroelectric production has increased due to recent rains.

The decrease comes after an increase of more than 13 percent in Alabama Power rates went into effect in October when fuel prices were increasing.
