Jefferson County Facing $20M Deficit At End Of Fiscal Year

Birmingham, AL – The county's finance director tells commissioners that Jefferson County will end the fiscal year Sept. 30 with a $20 million cash deficit.

Travis Hulsey presented a chart that showed the county will be out of cash by the end of July.

Hulsey said a combination of a circuit judge ruling prohibiting the use of occupational tax and a decline in the national economy has created a ``volatile situation'' for the county.
