Florala, AL – Farmer and agri-businessman Glen Zorn says he is running in 2010 for the Democratic nomination for commissioner of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries.
Zorn made the announcement Monday afternoon during a news conference in Florala, his hometown.
Zorn has been the assistant commissioner of agriculture for six years. Democratic Commissioner Ron Sparks is serving his second term and can't run for re-election. Sparks has said he's running for the Democratic nomination for governor.
Zorn also serves as director of the agriculture department's Center for Alternative Fuels.
Zorn says one of his goals as agriculture commission would be to help the state develop a comprehensive water management plan to deal with droughts.
