Montgomery, AL – State school officials say a plan to add a set of ethics standards to the administrative code for teachers and other public school employees will help strengthen the fight against unethical behavior.
But State Department of Education spokesman Michael Sibley said it doesn't mean ethics wasn't taken seriously before now.
The state school board endorsed the ethics standards in 2005 but never officially included them as part of the administrative code.
Tony Thacker, who coordinates Gov. Bob Riley's commission on quality teaching, said people in the field felt the omission could be misconstrued and made their concerns known. He said a ``groundswell of support'' from administrators led to the request for board action. A vote is scheduled for July 11.
