Russo Pleads Guilty to State Ethics Charges

By Associated Press

Mobile, AL – Former Orange Beach Mayor Steve Russo has pleaded guilty to three felony charges of violating the state ethics law and to one charge of illegally using campaign funds to purchase clothing.

Russo pleaded guilty to the state charges Monday and was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was already serving a nine-year sentence at the federal prison at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery for his 2006 conviction in a federal corruption case.

Russo can serve the seven-year state sentence at the same time he serves the federal sentence.

Attorney General Troy King said Russo pleaded guilty to using his office for personal gain to receive items such as clothes, entertainment and food.
