Dallas County Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

By Associated Press

Plantersville, AL – The Department of Defense has released the name of a Plantersville soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

The department released a statement Monday saying 26-year-old Sgt. Ricky D. Jones and 27-year-old Spc. Rodrigo A. Munguia Rivas of Germantown, Md., were killed in Bagram, Afghanistan on Sunday.

Jones' mother, Shelia McCrary, told the Selma Times-Journal that her son's nickname was 'Mojo' and he became known for his speed on the football field.

Jones was assigned to the 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade at Fort Polk, La. He had come home in March on a two-week leave to help his mother as she recovered from hip surgery.

McCrary said she last spoke with Jones on Friday. He was preparing to send a gift home for his son's upcoming birthday.
