Montgomery, AL – Former Alabama conservation commissioner John McMillan says he's running for agriculture commissioner next year as a Republican.
McMillan also served in the Alabama House for six years and spent 23 years as executive vice president of the Alabama Forestry Association. The 67-year-old candidate from Stockton says there are many opportunities for farmers with the development of alternative fuels, and he wants to make sure Alabama's farmers are at the forefront.
McMillan's announcement Tuesday follows an announcement two weeks ago from assistant agriculture commissioner Glen Zorn that he would run as a Democrat.
The current agriculture commissioner, Democrat Ron Sparks, is running for governor.
