Birmingham, AL – The Alabama Supreme Court has set aside a restraining order south by Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale to keep the county from cutting his department's budget.
The court ruled that a Bessemer judge did not have the authority to issue a temporary restraining order, but did say the sheriff can petition a Birmingham court for an injunction and a decision.
The Jefferson County Commission wants to cut $5.1 million from the sheriff department's budget because of the county's mounting financial problems.
