Department to Pick Firm for Cemetery Construction

By Associated Press

Montevallo, AL – The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is set to pick a company for the next phase of construction at the Alabama National Cemetery.

The job includes construction of two buildings, utilities, a memorial walkway and 9,000 additional gravesites. The estimated cost of the work will be between $10 million and $20 million.

Quincy Whitehead, executive director of the Alabama National Cemetery, said a contract should be awarded in 60 days.

Burials started last month at the 479-acre cemetery off Alabama 119 in Montevallo.
