Birmingham, AL – Residents of Jefferson County whose motor vehicle tags are due to be renewed in August or September have been given extra time.
State Revenue Commissioner Tim Russell said Tuesday that the deadline for renewing motor vehicle registration and paying property tax on vehicles has been extended until Nov. 30 for Jefferson County residents whose tags expire in August and September.
Russell said the deadline was being extended to accommodate people affected by the closings of Jefferson County offices because of the county's financial crisis.
The state also extended the deadline for Jefferson County residents to register a new car purchased from July 12 to Sept. 10.
