Montgomery, AL – Schools, volunteer fire departments and other organizations will have to wait to receive millions in state grants allocated by legislators.
The State Executive Commission on Community Service Grants was supposed to meet Monday to approve changes in operating rules and approve several million dollars in grants recommended by legislators. But the commission canceled its meeting when two of the four members didn't show up.
First, the chairman, Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr., called in sick. The vice chairman, State Treasurer Kay Ivey, was supposed to preside in his absence, but she skipped the meeting. Ivey says she couldn't advocate more disclosure in the grant process if she were presiding.
Another meeting hasn't been scheduled.
